During our time in Rwanda we had the opportunity to visit Red Rocks Initiative, a cultural center focused on sustainable tourism, but it is so much more than that. The women of Red Rocks are truly remarkable. Coming from a variety of backgrounds, Red Rocks provides a community structure and resources for women to become entrepreneurs. Local banana beer, artwork, and other products are for sale; the proceeds of which the women invest in various new ventures within their community, not only lifting themselves up, but working to lift their community as well. In addition to being an entrepreneurial hub, those at Red Rocks are focused on cultural and environmental sustainability, with initiatives centered around protecting their community and the beautiful and unique landscape that surrounds them – Volcanoes National Park.
