Ingoma Nshya Drum Troop

Drumming gave us a face, we are now unforgettable women.” – Attribution

The Ingoma Nshya Drum Troop started 15 years ago with three members. Before Genocide, drumming was reserved for men. Even when the Troop started there was and still is a stigma against women drumming. Nevertheless the Troop continued to grow. Now they have 17 members who are travelling the world, performing and making a living doing something they love. Every day they are challenging the status quo,  breaking boundaries, and having a fabulous time doing it!

“This isn’t just a hobby, it’s a source of income and empowerment, breaking the expectations of what women can and should do.” – Attribution
